The Almighty Stimulus Plan

This little editorial was posted in the BYU Daily Universe last week. I know, it's a big deal.

Ok, is anyone else out there just completely insulted at the hypocrisy exhibited by the Democrats and Comrade Obama? Seriously, I can't stand it anymore. Take this so-called "stimulus" package that Obama says must be passed or our country will never recover from this recession. He's actually using fear to make us believe that we need to spend trillions of dollars (yes, it's not just the $900 billion anymore) to save our economy. Remember when September 11 happened and the liberals accused President Bush of using fear to persuade us to retaliate? But apparently it's ok to use fear to make us believe that we need to waste our money for egregious purposes. Anyone with half a brain knows that pumping money into the economy like this will only come from raised taxes, which is the absolute worst thing to do during a recession. Here's a little insight into this "economic stimulus package:" $90 billion for Medicaid, $2.4 billion for neighborhood stabilization activities, $6.2 billion for a weatherization assistance program, to name a few. And this list goes on. Tell me this, how does any of this actually stimulate the economy? Answer: it doesn't. So why are the Democrats misrepresenting it as such? Because calling it a "Socialist Stimulus Package" doesn't sound as flattering. But isn't that what this is all about? Nationalizing the banks, the free market, healthcare – it's all socialism. It's all aimed at making the people dependent on the government. Why not spend money on things that matter, like drilling for oil? Hey, that might help us become energy independent. But wait, that wouldn't fit into the Green movement – and anyone that rejects global warming is apparently a Holocaust denier. The bottom line is our country is under attack by an enemy far worse than any terrorist – socialism. And so far, our new president has very subtly acted in the name of socialism. I stand with Rush Limbaugh: I hope he fails. Not because I'm a racist or a hatemonger, but because I love my country and his policies will only lead to a weaker America.
