Is anybody else freaking out right now about what's happening in our country? Anybody really even paying attention? I'd say most people aren't, because if they were, there'd be a lot more people freaking out. And here's why:
For the longest time I was a pretty steady supporter of President Bush. I mean, his policies on illegal immigration are disgusting, but for the most part, I liked the guy. But now with this auto bailout issue surfacing, all the sudden we've turned into a monarchy. Congress voted (God bless them) against the auto bailout (first good thing they've done in the last two years). So that's it, right? No. President Bush comes out of nowhere and says that he's still going to go through with the bailout? Where does that power come from? Where in the Constitution does it say that the president can go against a Congressional decision? Unbelievable. Now, I hope no one takes this as Brad shifting over to the Obama bandwagon. I can write for hours about him, but I'll probably wear most of you out.
Nationalization: Oh bailouts, where does your tunnel end? Apparently nowhere. And how low are the interest rates going to be cut before our financial system just implodes? It doesn't take a genius to realize that slashing interest rates slashes the value of the dollar. So what if the dollar value falls? Well, then who's going to invest in the dollar?!?! How are we supposed to pay for the multi-trillion dollar bailouts we've already accumulated, especially now that the dollar is as pathetic as the peso? You know, most people aren't smart enough to realize that THEY are the ones who will be paying for all of that. Them and their kids.
So what does nationalizing the financial market do to our country? Just another step towards socialism. It won't be too long before the hard-working wealthy will be forced to "spread the wealth" to the lazy incompetents. And I've heard of some LDS members trying to use King Benjamin as a source to argue in behalf of socialism. Please, stop wresting the scriptures.
Secular progressives: I guess there has to be bad out there to complement the good, right? It's ironic that the democratic system is set up to adhere to the voice of the people. And yet there is this small, yet extremely vocal, minority that is eroding our democratic values (and by democratic, I don't mean the Democratic party). Unfortunately, this minority is growing in numbers. Why is not all the sudden not OK to say "Merry Christmas?" What's the big deal about hanging Christmas lights and calling them "Christmas lights?" Why does our educational system place Darwinism on a pedestal and strike down any mention of the world God? And what's this idea that the Constitution is now meant to be an evolving document that we conveniently change to fit out "modern needs?" Let me just say this: the moment a society disowns their Creator is the moment it crumbles and dies.
I have to get back to studying for finals.
