Tuesday's Congressional Speech

Well Tuesday night we listened to a stream of blatant lies that most of us just soaked in, not having a clue as to their meaning. Most people don’t realize what’s going on because they’re so still enamored that they’re part of electing an “historical” president. It shouldn’t take long before we start opening our eyes and look past all the glamore to see what our president is doing to our country and to generations to come.

Lie #1: Our economy will collapse if we don’t act immediately. Really? So had Congress not passed the $775 something billion dollars, would America still be alive today? The magic 8 ball points to yes. If Obama can manipulate enough people to believe that extreme, immediate action needs to be taken, he can basically implement any policy he wants. Once he gets this ball rolling, there’s no stop to it. And we’ve allowed him to push the boulder down the mountain and eventually it’s going to smash the small town at the bottom and destroy it. Blood and carnage everywhere. J

Lie #2: Everyone will have to sacrifice priorities where there is no money. Even me. Then why is the government creating debt with no end in sight in order to pay for things that WE DON’T NEED? The biggest sub-lie here is the “down payment” of $650+ billion for universal healthcare. First off, it’s apparently just money that we’re going to save up for when we start universal healthcare. So they’re not even doing anything with it. Just taking it from us. Well, not most of us. They’re taking it from the rich. Yes, if you’ve succeeded in life and made a comfortable living for yourself, be prepared to be taxed up the wazoo to pay for undeserving people to have free healthcare. That’s the American dream at its best. Spread the wealth. So what’s going to happen? People are going to have less money, they’re going to have less spendable income to pump into the economy, the markets will continue to dive bomb, businesses will continue to close, but the 20 illegal immigrants living in the garage next door will have free hospital trips. So everything works out.

Lie #3: I'm proud that we passed a recovery plan free of earmarks. When I read this, I could imagine him saying this while flipping me off and spitting in my face and then giving me a good crouch kicking. Free of earmarks, are you kidding me?! How does he define earmarks? How would he categorize the billions of dollars set aside for batteries, green technology (my biggest beef), new uniforms for agencies, tatoo removal studies, and all that money that will end up in the hands of special interest groups such as ACORN? Those aren’t earmarks? So if I shoot somebody in the nose, does that mean I didn’t actually shoot him in the face? And let’s not forget all the billions of dollars allocated to the banks and mortgage companies and the idiots out there who bought a house they knew they couldn’t afford. Oh, that reminds of of another sub-lie here: Obama said the people who acted irresponsibly will not receive any bailouts. Please.

I could go on and on but my fingers are tired from typing. I can’t believe a word this guy says because every statement is followed by a hypocritical, contradictory action. Something that does somewhat lift my spirits is that President Obama has the lowest approval rating for his first month of presidency than any other former president. So maybe he’s not the Messiah afterall.

And the Oscar Goes To...

Last night I gave into watching the Oscars. The whole 3.5 hours. Straight. There’s plenty of complaints I can make about it, but let’s start with the positives first. Hugh Jackman did a pretty good job as the host. I’ve added him to the list of celebrities who unbeknownst to me have an English accent. Ben Stiller added a nice touch with his Joaquin Phoenix impersonation. And the musical montage performance was pretty good. It wasn’t all that bad, at least not until homeboy Sean Penn took to the stand. I’ve always thought this guy was a complete joke. I don’t know where these actors come off thinking that just because they’re in movies they’re God’s gift to the world. I swear I’ll throw up next time I hear George Clooney talk about why America is destroying the environment and causing global warming. But that’s not the point of this thought sequence.

Sean Penn gets up after accepting the ward for his role in Milk, an obscenely-spun viewpoint on gay rights and liberal activism, and first off the guy can’t talk. He stumbles all over his words like a guy with polio walking on water logs. When he started talking I told Whitney, “He’s going to say something stupid.” And he did. And it went something like this:

I hope everyone who opposed gay marriage will contemplate the shame that they should feel and that their grandkids will see in them.

Excuse me? So you’re telling me that I should be ashamed because I hold to a set of basic values? And of course after he says this everyone in the audience starts clapping and cheering as though he’s the next Martin Luther King. I’m fine with you having that viewpoint. But where do you get off telling the large majority of Americans who oppose your viewpoint that they should be ashamed? You know what Hollywood – and everyone else who agrees with Mr. Penn – you’re all tools. Manipulative, poison-infected tools. This is supposed to be the progressive group of Americans who’s all about free speech and voicing your opinion, about equal rights and standing for what you believe. Can we find any more blatant hypocrites than those we honored last night?

Where’s my free speech? Why should I be shunned and persecuted for my opinion? Explain to me how Sean Penn can look me in the eye and honestly say that he believes in the right to free speech when he goes and says something like that. And it’s not just him – it’s the whole (insert desired explicit) liberal movement! I’m being called a hatemonger for believing that God still expects us to uphold certain values – and to fight for those values. I don’t care if it’s in vogue to be green, or tolerant, or socialist. Why do we let a small minority of Hollywood prima donnas determine what we should and shouldn’t believe in? People in this country can be so ignorant as to where they get their information from.
Oh, and another side note but along the same lines. So the screen writer for Milk won his category and of course he’s gay and of course he includes in his speech how good it felt to leave a “conservative Mormon” home and find a way to live free and express himself. Oh I’m just so happy for you. You opened my eyes – I’ve been trapped inside my conservative, intolerant world all my life and don’t know what it really means to love and accept people for who they are. And then the guy cried. Just so touching.

Free speech was meant to go both ways and people like those we revere in Hollywood believes it’s only supposed to benefit them and crush the opposition. And of course they’ll disagree and accuse their opposition of being intolerable, and I wouldn’t expect anything more. They’re cowards who only put up a fight when they know they’ll win, and they only win by pulling a Tonya Harding and bashing your knees out from under you. So to all of Hollywood – great will be the day when you drown in the Pacific.

To end on a positive note, I had a really refreshing workout this morning.

The Almighty Stimulus Plan

This little editorial was posted in the BYU Daily Universe last week. I know, it's a big deal.

Ok, is anyone else out there just completely insulted at the hypocrisy exhibited by the Democrats and Comrade Obama? Seriously, I can't stand it anymore. Take this so-called "stimulus" package that Obama says must be passed or our country will never recover from this recession. He's actually using fear to make us believe that we need to spend trillions of dollars (yes, it's not just the $900 billion anymore) to save our economy. Remember when September 11 happened and the liberals accused President Bush of using fear to persuade us to retaliate? But apparently it's ok to use fear to make us believe that we need to waste our money for egregious purposes. Anyone with half a brain knows that pumping money into the economy like this will only come from raised taxes, which is the absolute worst thing to do during a recession. Here's a little insight into this "economic stimulus package:" $90 billion for Medicaid, $2.4 billion for neighborhood stabilization activities, $6.2 billion for a weatherization assistance program, to name a few. And this list goes on. Tell me this, how does any of this actually stimulate the economy? Answer: it doesn't. So why are the Democrats misrepresenting it as such? Because calling it a "Socialist Stimulus Package" doesn't sound as flattering. But isn't that what this is all about? Nationalizing the banks, the free market, healthcare – it's all socialism. It's all aimed at making the people dependent on the government. Why not spend money on things that matter, like drilling for oil? Hey, that might help us become energy independent. But wait, that wouldn't fit into the Green movement – and anyone that rejects global warming is apparently a Holocaust denier. The bottom line is our country is under attack by an enemy far worse than any terrorist – socialism. And so far, our new president has very subtly acted in the name of socialism. I stand with Rush Limbaugh: I hope he fails. Not because I'm a racist or a hatemonger, but because I love my country and his policies will only lead to a weaker America.

What the Government Should Do

This is why the so-called “stimulus” package will not work. The biggest reason: it’s not meant to stimulate the economy. It’s meant to stimulate government growth and expansion. If you look at all the different provisions laid out in the stimulus plan, there are very few that can be justified for economic growth. Billions of dollars are being reserved for meaningless projects like STD preventive studies, renovating buildings like the Smithsonian, universal healthcare, free healthcare for illegal aliens, to name a few. The only people who benefit from this policy are those in high-ranking government positions. Here’s the thing: when a country is experiencing a recession, the worst possible thing the government can do is intervene and start a spending craze. Remember when the Democrats were freaking out at Bush’s intense spending? Well Obama’s proposed policies will far and away trump any spending during the Bush Administration. This enormous amount of money has to come from the taxpayers because we aren’t going to get anymore loans from China or other countries because the dollar has lost most its value. So multiple generations of Americans will be paying for these bailouts.

People like to compare Obama to FDR, and in many ways they’re alike. The Great Depression lasted seven years longer than it should have. The New Deal was not meant to bring the economy back to life, it was meant merely to ensure Democratic power for decades, as was the result. Obama’s plans are exactly the same. If he was really concerned about bringing the economy back to life, he would exert some discipline and allow the free market to correct itself. Many people don’t know about the depression in 1920. It had the potential to be just as bad as the Great Depression, but it was short-lived because the presidency at the time did not try and control the market. Result: the market turned around on its own. You know, businesses all over are cutting back to accommodate the slow economy. So why is the government expanding more than ever? Something to think about.

Japan went through a similar recession in the 90’s and tried a very similar stimulus package. What happened? Unemployment actually increased along with a huge national debt, and their economy has been crappy ever since. So I don’t understand why our government believes that it will work this time. The point of history is to learn from it to make a better future. Well, the New Deal was a disaster (despite what I learned in high school – I actually believed FDR was this amazing president until I learned more about him over the last couple years), Japan’s attempts failed, and this New New Deal will inevitably fail.

If Obama is insistent on pumping money into the economy, then he should do it in the form of tax cuts. That way the money comes back to the tax payers without increasing inflation by printing new money. The best thing he could do is cut the business tax rate – which is ridiculously high. With the tax rates so high – and Obama has promised to increase them – they have no incentive to expand and higher more people, which means no new jobs. But if they got a break and were encouraged to grow, then more jobs would be available and the economy would experience a huge jump start and begin its upswing. So that’s what I would do – cut the corporate tax rates and individual rates. The absolute worst thing to do in a struggling economy is increase spending and pump money into the system. You can’t spend your way out of a recession, you have to produce. Obama along with most of Washington doesn’t seem to understand that. And frankly, he’s got the same economic intelligence as his new dog. But it looks like we and many future generations will be paying for this egregious stimulus package.
